An interview with Chad Smith on musicradar.com revealed all about the break of the band which started last year and apparently will be extended to allow bassist Flea to complete his music studies.
This is what Chad said,
"I think, when we're all ready to play again, when we feel like it's time to be the Chili Peppers again, we'll do it.
"...I'm just saying we all have to feel that the time is right to get it together.
"A year off might have been optimistic. Maybe it'll be two years, maybe more, who knows?...We'll only get back together for the right reason - to play music with one another."
While John is promoting The Empyrean, Smith will debut with his new band Chickenfoot, Kiedis enjoys his parency and Flea continues his studies at the University of California.
Hopefully when least expected, the Peppers will give us some more of their magic.

John is featured on the cover of the new issue of Guitarist magazine as well as an article with him talking about "The Empyrean" process.

This time there's a funny story, like you all know, after the "the past recedes" video was shot at his home, a fire took place in his kitchen and since then John stated that He'll never be shot or photographed again at his place, here's what happened recently:
" The entire print run of Guitarist's new issue – ironically featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante as its cover star – has been burned in a lorry fire...". Guitarist Magazine News. February 9, 2009
They estimated the issue would only be a day or two late and after a re-print, it was finally out on February 17th.
